Ce morceau date de 1930 et est tiré de la pièce à succès Girl Crazy. (Livret d'Ira Gershwin et musique de George Gershwin).

Créé à l'Alvin Theater par Ginger Rogers (dont c'était le deuxième spectacle à Broadway),Ethel Merman (qui faisait , elle,ses débuts à Broadway), et Allen Kearns.

Deux chansons de cette production, en particulier, rencontreront une popularité immense :I Got Rhythm et But not for Me.
